After check-in, the rest of the day is free for you to explore this delightful destination or to relax in a traditional Finnish sauna at the hotel. In the evening, enjoy a delicious three course dinner at the hotel.
December 24: Christmas Eve with Huskies, Arctic Wildlife and Yuletide Festivities
This exciting day kicks off with a traditional Finnish breakfast buffet before heading out for the day’s exciting Arctic adventures. First on the agenda is a visit to a Husky kennel where you get to meet Santa’s four-legged friends! The whole group will be split. While the first group starts by having an 500m Husky safari in the breathtaking wilderness (two persons sharing one dog team), the others are enjoying hot juice and snacks at a traditional tepee and go into the forest to feed the forest animals. Afterwards the groups swap their activities before moving on to the next destination, Ranua Wildlife Park.
Relax on the 1.5 hour coach bus journey to the park as the road winds through Lapland’s peaceful, snowcovered countryside. Upon arrival at Ranua Wildlife Park, you are joining a guided walking tour through the park to observe Arctic wildlife such as polar bears, lynx and wolves before you are provided with a savoury lunch buffet in the park’s restaurant afterwards. You also have the chance for last-minute Christmas shopping at the park’s souvenir and candy shops before the return ride to the hotel.
Back at the hotel you have some time to get dressed for the Christmas Eve. Your guide will pick you up from the hotel to have a short walk to the restaurant where the event is happening. At the restaurant the Christmas tree is decorated, you are treated to fresh gingerbread cookies and a warm mug of tasty glögg, a Nordic mulled wine traditionally served during the holiday season. Later, enjoy a festive Christmas Eve dinner buffet, featuring Finnish specialties. Finally, Santas elves make a special appearance at the restaurant to spread Christmas cheer and give small gifts to all good boys and girls—adults included!
December 25: Christmas Day with Santa Claus and Reindeer
Experience the magic of the Arctic Circle during a day-long excursion to Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland, which is only a 1.5 hour ride from Kemi in a comfortable bus. The first stop is a Lappish reindeer farm where you can learn about reindeer herding and Sami culture and take a 30min ride in a reindeer sled through the Finnish woods. In fact, those who manage to pass the short driving test are awarded a special “reindeer driver license”! Afterwards you have a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before you head to the famous Santa Claus village itself where you can meet Santa Claus and his merry elves in Santa’s workshop before a bit of souvenir shopping. By late afternoon the bus returns you to Kemi in time to enjoy Christmas dinner at the hotel.
